Tonkin + Taylor has been involved with the Bluegums Landfill project since 1997. Initially, T+T investigated and designed remedial works after the lining system (designed by others) failed. Since then, T+T has provided design and construction supervision services to Marlborough District Council (MDC).
Through collaboration with MDC and the landfill operations contractor, T+T has developed a deep understanding of the site, leading to efficient and pragmatic design solutions. T+T’s innovative technical and operational management solutions include controlling surface water in new cells to minimise leachate generation and maximise clean water collection.
The Bluegums Landfill is engineered to high standards and is expected to service the district until 2047, based on annual inputs of 65,000 tonnes.
