In 2016, safety concerns arose from the severe deterioration of Vanuatu’s Bauerfield International Airport. The World Bank agreed with the Vanuatu Government to fund the runway rehabilitation and operational improvement of the airside facilities. The project was part of the wider $US114 million regional Pacific Aviation Investment Programme. T+TI was the lead consultant in association with Opus Consultants Ltd. T+TI was appointed as the design consultant to complete the detailed site investigations, design services and contract packaging for both the civil engineering contract and Navaid (navigational aid) works. The project involved rehabilitating and upgrading the runway, taxiway, and apron to meet forecast demand for wide-body Code 4E aircraft. Other improvements included increasing the apron area, improved stormwater management, and operational airfield lighting.
